carrie + aaron a wedding in dominica

Dominica [dough-me-KNEE-ka] - also known as Nature Island has just under 400 rooms on the island for visitors to stay. It is largely undeveloped consisting mostly of beautiful jungle, stunning waterfalls, a natural boiling lake, and the most delicious food I have partaken in in a long long time.  When Aaron called me up and said that he and his fiance, Carrie, were getting married down there and asked if I would be interested in shooting their wedding on this tiny Caribbean island I didn't have to think long... especially since I get a two-fer [their reception is in August in Middlebury, VT.]

Oh the adventures we had! It was just them and me... no one else - so we got lots and lots of time to hang out. One day we hiked straight into the jungle [with a guide... it was actually his backyard that we left from] for a little ways and then got into a river and hiked up that until we came to this huge waterfall. I was carrying 75lbs. of gear all covered in rain sleeves and they were carrying their wedding wear. It was quite the trek, let me tell you. We weren't hiking on paths really... just climbing through the jungle. So we set up, snapped for a little bit, packed up and then realized it was dark. Have you ever tried to find your way in the middle of a foreign jungle guided by only moonlight? It's not as easy as it sounds.

The following day they said their vows on the beach and had an incredibly romantic evening on the coast. It was absolutely amazing. I just absolutely love it when my couples think outside the box and do things a little differently. Definitely looking forward to more travels this year and to my amazing couples doing things the way that they want - not the way that society or tradition dictates they do them. I am surrounded by the most brilliant of stars glowing brightly and lighting the way for others.
