The Unbearable Lightness of NYC Bookstore Weddings

Levity and gravity in perfect compliment as we stroll a New York in bloom.

we love each other so deeply that sometimes I look at him and he looks at me and we can just simply say 'I know'.

A funny and cute side note: when Christopher and I were first together, he finally got the courage to say 'I love you'. So he said it, and I, in my awkward, uncomfortable way said 'OK'. I knew I loved him too, but it was a big step for me. So the next day I wrote him a little card - the front said "I love you" and I wrote on the inside of the card "i do." - just like that. lower case with a period. So, for a while, when he would say "I love you", I would reply "i do." as a little joke to acknowledge how incredibly awkward I was. Fast forward: the day he proposed to me, my mom ended up in the hospital, and our day was rained on - to say the least. He was leaving the next day to go design lights for a show in CA, and we were devastated. So, I organized a surprise engagement party in CA with help from Scott Viets, artistic director at the theater (who will be officiating our wedding). I had people anonymously send paperback book covers from all over the world to his address. I asked them to buy a used book at a local used book store, cut off the cover and write "i do." on the back and the name of the bookstore and the city. That's all. He received dozens of book covers and that was the first step to a big surprise party. Those book covers will serve as table numbers in our wedding. And I get to say "I DO" with a lot more meaning this time.
