Seeing things from a different perspective. That's what this post is all about. Trying to take a step back and not just looking but seeing things in  way that may be against your initial instinct [or more likely, against the industry's instinct.]

A couple weeks ago I drove out to Manchester, VT [which is just lovely, by the way] to help my friend Dave shoot Meghan and Matt's wedding. I always love tagging along to shoot with folks when I can but due to the nature of my schedule, I find myself being able to do it less and less - so when I DO get to do it, it's all that much sweeter. When I asked Dave what he wanted me to do, if there was anything specific that he'd like me to document for him, his response was simple - 'Just go have fun.' Done. At one point he even tossed his Tilt Shift my way and said something to the effect of, 'Go try using this.' Done. Watching Dave work is awesome and taking a step outside of myself to shoot with the same drive and passion as I always do but from a perspective that I usually don't was a blast. Hope you enjoy the few images from their lovely celebration...

While I was out in Denver shooting for CorePower Yoga, I snuck into a teacher training class and did some documenting. The TT program at CorePower seems really lovely - lots of mentoring, one on one time, some academics, and not too much boring chanty chanty stuff. Something that sounds right up my alley if only I didn't live on the better side of the country.

Watching people grow and blossom and have their 'ah-HA' moments has always been quite fascinating to me. Sort of like watching a small child, you can actually see them learning and connecting the dots and putting the pieces together... it all starts to make sense. Life and purposeful integration. Good times all around.

Anyways, here's a few images from the class I watched for a while.

Carolynne came to visit along with her hubby, Jeff. A little bit ago I shot the author photos for Jeff's book, The Winner's Brain, and this time when he cam back to update his images, he brought along his lovely wife [and stellar kid, too...]

Carolynne is a pretty awesome musician so we spent some time creating some images for her new merchandise, promo material, and cd packaging. We sort of ran the gamut from very commercial to very not. She specializes in worship music so I wanted to make sure that we had a little sense of mystery in some of the images as well as the general happy go lucky lifestyle vibe... so that's what we did. Fun was had by all and we came away with some great images.

Hello my friends. With wedding season speeding along at full throttle, I have lots of very beautiful people to introduce you to this year. I feel incredible honored to have the privilege of sharing their stories with you. But before we get to those, I thought I might share some personal work and my favorite story of the year so far.

While I was out in Denver shooting for the National Theatre Conservatory, I grew really interested in the relationship between a director and an actor. Well, more to the point I am fascinated by how we give and receive direction. While not a specific chronological story, below you will find an essay on the nuanced way the visionaries impart their vision to the storytellers themselves, and how those visions are taken and implemented. The shows being rehearsed are Ah Wilderness by Eugene O'Neill directed by Larry Hecht and As You Like It, by Billy Shakes directed by Sabin Epstein. Movement direction by Bob Davidson and voice/speech direction by Michael Cobb. Watch, listen, learn. Be silent while your elders are speaking and otherwise show them deference.
