Strolling through Marblehead for an afternoon, Rachel, Buzzie and I spent some time making images and getting to know all about each other. The sea was calm, the couple endearing, and the town as quaint and coastal New England-y as ever. Their wedding is later this year in Cape Cod [right after the Roots Workshop!] and I'm super excited to get to hang out with them again. ACTUALLY, I get to see them as guests at a wedding in Bermuda come May! Hooray for awesomeness.

Sometimes, when all the stars align - great match between photographer and couple, perfect setting, sweet pair of traveling shoes... magic happens. Imagery leaves the realm of 'Oh, look at that pretty picture,' and wanders into more tangible territory. You can feel the composition take on a life of its own. I've always said that I would much rather be making imagery that lives in people hearts rather than on their walls... though it's also nice when the two collide.

In late fall I found myself strolling around The Ritz-Carlton and Harvard University documenting a beautiful story of a couple that met here in Boston, though their lives now have them over to the west coast. Late fall in New England is one of my favorite times of year - the leaves are all off the trees and it's crisp and the sun just kind of peaks out for a little bit and then nestles herself back in her bungalow for the winter.

Johanna and Frank are a charming duo - constantly at each other's side, beaming, laughing...  Johanna is finishing up school while Frank gets ready for spring training and his second season with the Cleavland Indians.  They'll be able to spend a nice cozy winter together before he hits the road again to play ball.

Here are a few frames from their wonderfully classic celebration.

Doug says:

I thought Frank looked familiar. I actually umpired some of his games in Akron in 2008. Nicely done.

right on, D. Akron is also referenced in one of my favorite plays ever, Harvey.

It's a very special couple that I will consent to documenting a full on city wedding. It's not that I don't love cities, I just... well, actually... cities and I butt heads a little bit. I'm a pretty mellow dude who kind of likes to live life at a nice laid back pace and can get very easily hyper stimulated - the plus side of that is I have become a very patient shooter. I don't 'spray and pray' or need to take 8000 shots to tell a story. The downside is that when I'm in an environment, like a city, that has about 8 billion things all happening at the same time... well let's just say that by the end of the day I come to understand complete and utter overwhelming exhaustion.

So when Meagan first reached out and mentioned that her celebration was going to be at the Boston Public Library, right in the heart of the city, I was a little wary. However, when she came into the loft to meet and I got a glimpse into who she was, I was immediately hooked. I got to meet Ted for the first time on the wedding day and, true to his counterpart, he is a wonderfully gracious, engaging, and remarkable person. Within the library that day, there was an immaculate atmosphere of tranquil serenity despite the bustling of city life.

I hope you enjoy a quiet selection from their story.

Nancy and Bom held a wonderfully elegant affair in The Great House at the Crane Estate in Ipswich, one of my favorite towns in MA. While these two spend a lot of time apart due to startups and residences on opposite ends of the world, when they are together, we all become witness to their coruscating love. These two gentle souls brought a sense of calmness and serenity to their day and thusly, to their imagery. It was a wonderfully relaxing day to be a part of.

Big shoutouts go to Linnea Tangorra for helping the couple keep things organized and the day running smoothly and to Dana for her lovely work.
